The Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion will be celebrated on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis and at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Paul.
The rite marks the beginning of the final period of preparation of catechumens (those not baptized) for the sacraments of initiation, ordinarily celebrated at the Easter Vigil. From the time of the Rite of Election until the time of their initiation, the catechumens are referred to as “members of the elect.”
During the Call to Continuing Conversion, those individuals already baptized who are preparing for entrance into the Catholic Church are recognized.
