A new website for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis’ Catholic school system — spmcatholicschools.org — aims to be a one-stop resource for everyone who supports and is interested in learning about the archdiocese’s 91 preschool to 12th grade schools, ministering to more than 31,000 students and their families.

Catholic school pre-K programs fuel enrollment growth

Preschool programs popping up at Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis have boosted enrollment. After years of decline, kindergarten through eighth-grade Catholic schools bounced back from an average loss of 800 students per year over the past three to four years, according to the Catholic Schools Center of Excellence. This year, schools increased total enrollment by 20-some students.

Archdiocese recognizes two new Catholic schools

The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis officially has gained two new Catholic schools: Chesterton Academy in Edina and Elizabeth Ann Seton Montessori in West St. Paul. After working for years to gain this status, the schools were granted the designation Jan. 29 by Archbishop Bernard Hebda, solidifying the relationship between the schools and the archdiocese.

New education office to put mission front and center

The Office for the Mission of Catholic Education launched in July under the leadership of Jason Slattery, former principal of Ave Maria Academy in Maple Grove. With his wife and three sons, he attends Sts. Peter and Paul in Loretto. Now working on a doctorate degree in leadership and interdisciplinary studies at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, Slattery shared his vision with The Catholic Spirit for how the new office will serve Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis through its focus on forming mission-driven leaders and students in a competitive marketplace.

Ave Maria principal to direct new education mission office

The principal of Ave Maria Academy in Maple Grove was appointed director for the new Office for the Mission of Catholic Education being formed in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
