Carmelite remembered for gentleness, humility

Carmelite Father Joseph V. Vaccaro, 84, died on Sept. 28 at the Little Sisters of the Poor Holy Family Residence. He was ordained in 1958 for the Archdiocese of Newark, N.J. and served there for 32 years.

He entered the Carmelite Hermitage in Lake Elmo in 1990 and made a profession of vows in 1993. He was buried in the cemetery at the Carmelite Hermitage.

“Father Joseph was known for his gentleness and humility,” said Father John Burns, a fellow Carmelite priest. “He assisted many people with confession and spiritual direction. Although in much pain, he died as he had lived, peaceful and resigned to God.”
