When she was just 8 years old, Maria Keller launched a drive to get a million books donated to poor children by the time she was 18. Today’s she’s 14, has met her goal and is getting closer to the 2 million book mark.
Keller, a member with her family of Holy Name of Jesus in Medina, was recently named one of 15 honorees and 10 winners of the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes for her efforts.
Keller, the daughter of Maura and Aaron Keller, is active in teen programs at her parish, including the Senior Crew youth ministry. The nonprofit she began six years ago, Read Indeed, welcomes cash donations to pay for new books, warehouse space and other expenses, as well as book drives at schools and churches.
