NET Ministries names president of its new foundation

West St. Paul-based NET Ministries has appointed Tom Ryan president of its new NET Ministries Foundation, drawing on his previous experience at NET Ministries as director of development and most recently as vice president for institutional advancement for The St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, where he has worked for 17 years.

NET Ministries is a national Catholic youth ministry that uses relational ministry to challenge young Catholics to follow Christ and embrace a life of community in the Church. It offers training in youth evangelization, leads about 1,000 retreats around the country each year and creates parish and school training resources for adults and teaching resources for teens.

In a joint statement, Mark Berchem, founder of NET, and Bishop Andrew Cozzens of the Diocese of Crookston and chair of NET’s board of directors, said, “We could not be more excited to welcome Tom back to NET! … His years of experience, deep faith, commitment to mission, and well-known ‘gifting’ in development make him just the type of leader we need to raise our national profile and engage more youth for Christ and his Church.”

NET Ministries also recently announced that David Rinaldi was the unanimous choice of its board of directors to become the organization’s new president. Rinaldi, who has served NET for 25 years, succeeds Mark Berchem, who founded the ministry in 1981. Rinaldi most recently served as vice president of mission, leading the training of 1,500 missionaries over the past 10 years. He also has given more than 1,400 presentations as a national Catholic speaker.

The personnel and organization changes at NET are part of a six-year strategic plan that includes expanded programming, additional missionaries, enhanced parish resources, focused leadership training and a greater focus on Latino youth. The organization said establishing a nonprofit foundation is “an integral part of the ministry’s strategic plan.”

“My hope is that our efforts not only fund the mission for the next six years but also build the necessary infrastructure and resources so that NET can continue its apostolic mission for decades to come,” Ryan said.
