Father McDonough’s deposition posted on archdiocesan website

A deposition that Father Kevin McDonough gave in St. Paul as part of a civil lawsuit in a case of alleged clergy sexual abuse has been posted on the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis’ website.

“We offer the deposition in its entirety as part of our renewed commitment to transparency and disclosure,” the archdiocese said in a statement April 24. “Father McDonough answered every question asked. The court pre-determined the length of the six-hour deposition.”

Father McDonough responded to questions about his involvement with the archdiocese’s handling of matters involving allegations of clergy sexual abuse while he served as archdiocesan vicar general between 1991 and 2008 and delegate for safe environments from 2008 to 2013, the archdiocese said.

The deposition was conducted by attorneys for a plaintiff known as “John Doe 1.” The plaintiff alleges that a former priest of the Diocese of Winona, Thomas Adamson, who had assignments in the archdiocese, sexually abused him in 1976 or 1977 when he was a minor.

The entire transcript of the deposition is available on the archdiocesan website. The archdiocese also is planning to post a video and video clips of the deposition.
