Catholics Charities partnered with St. Paul-Ramsey County Public Health and Twin Cities Public Television to create “Food Justice,” a TPT documentary that aired Nov. 15. The 27-minute program examines homelessness, food insecurity and efforts to increase access to healthier food.

“Many people in our community experiencing homelessness and poverty lack access to healthy foods,” said Donald Gault, Healthy Communities Division Manager at Saint Paul – Ramsey County Public Health in a Nov. 15 statement. “Food Justice hopes to raise awareness about food insecurity and highlight the hard work and creative efforts of shelters, meal programs and food shelves to make high quality, nutritious foods available for their guests and clients.”

Other partners included Second Harvest Heartland and the Minnesota Hunger Initiative. The program is expected to air again in December and can be streamed online. A free DVD can be ordered at www.foodjusticemn.org, which also offers additional resources on the issue.
