Archdiocesan Youth Choir Camp registration now open

Cathedral Choir of Minnesota is accepting applications for interested returning Saint Cecilia choristers and new choristers ages 10-17 for the Archdiocesan Youth Choir Camp. The day camp will be held at the Cathedral of St. Paul on Aug. 6-10. The cost of the camp is $75 and includes lunch. Learn to sing Gregorian Chant in Latin and participate in the end-of-week concert featuring music from around the world.

Academy of Holy Angels seniors pack bags for families

A group of high school seniors from the Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield spent time during their overnight Senior Party June 3 to June 4 packing bags with household essentials to benefit families served by the Salvation Army. They then helped load the bags into a Salvation Army truck at the end of their festivities at Brunswick Zone XL in Lakeville.

Father Jerome Fehn receives Silver St. George Emblem

Father Jerome Fehn was presented the Silver St. George Emblem by the National Committee on Catholic Scouting. This award honors adult members of the NCCS who have worked at the national level. Father Fehn has worked with NCCS for 30 years as a meeting organizer, region chaplain and on the advisory board.

National Center for Fathering essay winners announced

The National Center for Fathering announced three students from St. John the Baptist-Vermillion Elementary School as essay winners of the “What My Father Means to Me” essay contest. The student essays nominated their father or a father figure to win the 2012 Minnesota Twins Father of the Year contest.

From a pool of 4,128 essays submitted, Lukas Hanson won first place in the third grade level, Evan Kaiser won first place in the first grade level and Stephen Reinardy was chosen as runner-up in the second grade level.

  • Father James Burns, a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, was named interim dean of the Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College, where he has served since 2010 as director of faculty outreach and program assessment for University Mission and Ministry. He previously served as a professor at the University of St. Thomas.
  • Hill-Murray School in Maplewood honored the following alumni during the May 18 senior Mass: Bob Jones (1962) and Carla Jones Hauge (1987) with the Hill High School Heritage Award; Pat Barrett Wolff (1965) with the Archbishop Murray Memorial High School Heritage Award; Mark Berchem (1972) with the Hill-Murray Heritage Award; Donna Widerkehr (1978) with the Father Greg Tolaas Distinguished Service Award; Patricia Gaertner Eull (1976) with the Ron Ryan Jr. Community Leadership Award; Christian Brother Martin Sellner, staff member 1963-1985, with the Lasallian Award; and Honor Hacker, staff member 1958-1989, with the Benedictine Award.
  • St. Catherine University elected four new officers for two-year terms on its board of trustees: Karen Rauenhorst as chair; Sister Jean Wincek, CSJ, as vice chair; Joanne Jirik Mullen as vice chair; current board chair Mark Chronister will become secretary of the board.
