Joe Ferraro first met Father Bryan O’Rourke in 1944 while walking to his first day of kindergarten at St. Mark School in St. Paul. Ferraro recalled those grade school days and a lifelong friendship with the priest, who died April 17 in Los Angeles. He was 81.
A priest known to at least one family member as “Uncle Father Jim” died on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17. Father James Himmelsbach, a longtime military chaplain who served around the world and was a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, suffered a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 72.
Father Stanley Maslowski, a priest of the archdiocese who served for 50 years before being prohibited from priestly ministry in 2013 for admitted sexual misconduct with adults and instances of financial misconduct, died Jan. 7.
Father Patrick Griffin, 79, who served across the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis in 41 years of active ministry, died Dec. 8 at Catholic Eldercare in Minneapolis.
From buses to banks, Don Regan has left a rich legacy in the Twin Cities that continues to bear fruit in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and the community. The faith-filled philanthropist died Oct. 23 at age 91.
