Repent

Wisconsin bishop says ‘both sides’ urge response to priest’s ‘divisive’ video

The bishop of La Crosse, Wisconsin, said Sept. 9 that he has privately begun "applying Gospel principles" to correct a pastor who in a video says Catholics who are Democrats must "repent" of their support for the party or "face the fires of hell."

Repent

“Repent.” In the gospel of Mark, Jesus began his preaching with this expectation. It is a shocking opening line. Jesus does not begin with a polite greeting like “my dear friends,” nor does he begin with a blessing like “grace and peace to you,” nor does he begin with a compliment like “noble citizens and good people of this country.” He did not mince words. He was a straight shooter. He struck early with a dagger to the heart. He was brusque and abrasive.

In the end, everyone faces God with ’empty hands,’ pope says

God waits for everyone, even the worst sinner who repents only with his dying breath, Pope Francis said.

Pope: Anyone one who repents, desires God’s embrace can be saved

The church is not just for people who are good, who think they're good or pretend to be good, it is for everyone, especially the bad because the church is mercy, Pope Francis said.
