St. Francis-St. James United School in the West Seventh neighborhood of St. Paul is closing at the end of the 2012-2013 school year, school officials announced Nov. 30.
Advent is a time for Catholics to prepare to:
- Celebrate the Incarnation at Christmas.
- Receive the Eucharist.
- Accept the Final Judgment at death and at the end of the world.
Advent comes from the Latin word “adventus,” meaning coming, and the primary focus of the season is the comings of Jesus, past, present and future — at the first Christmas, during this holy season and at the end of our lives or at the Second Coming.
Leaders from five parishes gathered Nov. 27 at St. Michael in Farmington for the first meeting of a new archdiocesan-supported initiative designed to help them strengthen parish life and operations through a six-month strategic pastoral planning process.
The qualities of today’s priest stood out in “Presbyterorum Ordinis” (of the Order of Priests), the “Decree on the Ministry and Life of Priests” promulgated Dec. 7, 1965 by the Second Vatican Council.
“The surest way for me to tap into the spirit of Advent is to give an anonymous gift to a neighbor in need.”
Throughout the United States on the weekend of Dec. 8-9 the Church will take up the 25th annual collection for the retired religious.
Three additional parishes have now exceeded their 2012 Catholic Services Appeal goal, bringing the total number of parishes over goal to 127.
