Father John Timothy Power, founding pastor of Pax Christi in Eden Prairie, died Sept. 21 at age 76.

Father Power was born Oct. 13, 1939, in Faribault. After seminary studies at Nazareth Hall, St. Paul Seminary and Catholic University, he was ordained May 28, 1966.

Father Power established Pax Christi in 1981 and served there until his retirement in 2004. He also spent time as a chaplain for both the police and fire departments in Eden Prairie.

In addition to his pastoral work in Eden Prairie, Father Power co-founded The Center for Parish Leadership. CPL  provides guidance, support and resources for parish leaders.

Father Power previously served at St. Thomas the Apostle in Minneapolis from 1966 to 1967, St. Edward in Bloomington from 1969 to 1974 and St. Timothy in Blaine from 1974 to 1981. Besides parish work, Father Power served as an administrator for Archbishop Leo Binz from 1967 to 1969.

Pax Christi will host Father Power’s visitation from 2 to 7 p.m. Sept. 27. A funeral Mass will be 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at Pax Christi. The burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
