Deacon Paul Carlson, 94, was part of the first group of permanent deacons to be ordained for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis in 1976. He died April 20.
A catechist at the Paulist information center, Deacon Carlson taught Scripture for the diaconate formation program and in parishes and was a member of the archdiocesan Marriage Tribunal. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Lawrence Newman Center Parish April 26, with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery.
