Roseville priest under investigation following abuse allegation

The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis stated Aug. 27 that it received a credible allegation of sexual abuse against Father Robert Fitzpatrick, pastor of two Roseville parishes, Corpus Christi and St. Rose of Lima. The allegation is under investigation. Fitzpatrick, ordained in 1973, has taken a leave of absence and will not exercise ministry during the investigation.

According to a statement from Archbishop Bernard Hebda, the archdiocese’s apostolic administrator, Father Fitzpatrick was accused of sexually abusing a minor in the 1980s. He has been pastor of St. Rose of Lima parish and school since 2005, and pastor of Corpus Christi since 2012. Prior to those assignments, he was pastor of St. John the Evangelist, Little Canada, 1984-2005; associate pastor of Holy Spirit, St. Paul, 1977-1984, and associate pastor of St. Olaf, Minneapolis, 1973-1977.

“A ‘credible allegation’ is one that is ‘not manifestly false or frivolous,’” Archbishop Hebda said in the statement. “It is neither a presumption nor a determination of guilt.” He also said that it has notified law enforcement.
