Cretin-Derham Hall dedicated the Joe Mauer Field House Oct. 19 in honor of the Minnesota Twins pro baseball star and C-DH graduate and in recognition of the philanthropy of Mauer and his wife, Madeline Bisanz Mauer, also a standout high school athlete at the St. Paul school.

Both were born and raised in St. Paul and attended area Catholic schools. They met as students at Cretin-Derham Hall and graduated in 2001. Married in 2012, they are raising their family in the Twin Cities.

After starring in football, basketball and baseball for the Raiders, Joe Mauer was the first-round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins in 2001. As a professional, he is the only catcher in Major League Baseball history to win three batting titles.

According to information from Cretin-Derham Hall, the Mauers’ philanthropy “is reflective of their deeply held commitment to compassionate service, and includes support for organizations dedicated to education, developmental disabilities, healthcare and youth athletics.”
