Celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life

Religious brothers and sisters from around the archdiocese gathered to celebrate World Day for Consecrated Life Feb. 2 at the Cathedral of St. Paul. All women and men in consecrated life — which includes monastic life, the Orders of Virgins, hermits, and institutes completely devoted to contemplation, apostolic religious life and secular institutes — were honored and those in attendance celebrating special anniversaries were recognized, including several 60th anniversaries, one 65th and a 70th. In 1997, Pope John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life in conjuction with the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, Feb. 2. This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect light of Jesus Christ to all people. Photos by Dianne Towalski / The Catholic Spirit
