People from throughout the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis attended a penitential prayer service Nov. 3 at the Cathedral of St. Paul.

Archbishop John Nienstedt presided and asked those gathered to pray for strength and healing for those hurt by the Church.

“May the hurt, the wounded and those whose faith has been tested through human weakness receive strength, consolation and a renewed trust in Jesus Christ, the One who can make all things new,” he said.

“I came to support the Church and I really felt unified tonight,” said Teresa Choals, 15, of the Cathedral parish. “We were all praying together and, even though not all of us made some of the mistakes, we are definitely one Church and we all rise and fall together.”

The one-hour service included recitation of the seven penitential psalms; prayers for peace, healing and reconciliation; and moments of silence.
