NE Minneapolis celebrates beatification with prayer, party

Genna Lizakowski and Adam Kostanecki, members of the Polish folk dance group, Chabry, comprised of teens, performs May 1 at Pope John Paul II School in northeast Minneapolis to mark the beatification of the school’s namesake. The local celebration featured a Polish Mass, eucharistic procession, prayer and worship. It also included a party featuring food, memorabilia and performances by the school's choir, an Ecuadoran dance team and the teen and children's Polish folk dance groups. The Polish dance groups are part of the Dolina Polish Folk Dancers of Minnesota and hold their rehearsals at the adjacent Holy Cross Church.
Alfred Mock, a member of Holy Cross parish, shows Helena Hederman one of the many items of memorabilia he provided for a display during the celebration. Hederman was confirmed by Blessed Pope John Paul II as a child in Poland when he served there as a bishop.
