Archbishop John Nienstedt ordained nine deacons during a May 2 Mass at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis. Seven were ordained for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis: Deacons Neil Bakker, Michael Daly, Kyle Kowalczyk and Michael McClellan, Matthew Northenscold, Mark Pavlak and Joseph Zabinski.
In addition to the archdiocesan deacons, two others were ordained —one for a religious community and another for a personal ordinariate. Deacon Adam Tokashiki was ordained for the religious community Pro Ecclesia Sancta, which serves St. Mark in St. Paul. Like the archdiocesan deacons, Deacon Tokashiki will continue to study at the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity before ordination to the priesthood next year.
Deacon Treco, a former Anglican priest, was ordained for the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter. The day following his diaconate ordinate, he was ordained a priest at Holy Family in St. Louis Park, where he will minister to a small community of former Anglicans who have joined the Catholic Church but who, as members of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, continue to worship with some aspects of the Anglican liturgy.
