Christmas poster contest

The Catholic Spirit invites young artists in the archdiocese to participate in a poster contest with the theme: “I unwrap the real gift of Christmas when . . .”

The completed sentence must appear on the front of an 8-and-a-half-by-11-inch poster. Artists may use any media. Strong colors with a lot of contrast reproduce better than soft pastels in the newspaper.

Entries will be judged on originality and artistic ability, interpretation of the theme and newspaper reproduction quality.

A first-place prize of $50 will be awarded for one poster in each category: grades three and under, grades four through six, grades seven through nine, and grades 10 through 12.

Entries must be postmarked or dropped off at The Catholic Spirit offices by Wednesday, Dec. 11. Please include name, address, phone number, grade level and parish (include city). Mail to: The Catholic Spirit Christmas Contest, 244 Dayton Ave., St. Paul, MN 55102.

Winning entries will be published in The Catholic Spirit’s Christmas edition, Dec. 19.

Open house for Risen Christ immersion program

Risen Christ School in Minneapolis will host an open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 to showcase a new language immersion program.

The school has been selected to be part of the Two-Way Immersion Network for Catholic Schools, an innovative school model that delivers the classroom curriculum in two languages: English and a well-represented minority language. Classes will mix native English speaking students with classmates who speak Spanish, allowing both groups of students to become bilingual.

Risen Christ is located at 1120 E. 37th St. For information, visit the Risen Christ website.
