Last fall, after Catholic Charities CEO Tim Marx wrote an article in the StarTribune documenting the overcrowding at the Dorothy Day Center, a group of men from St. John Neumann parish in Eagan responded by offering to staff overnight the old offices of Catholic Charities in St. Paul (which we refer to as the Annex) so that no one had to be turned away.

In reading Julie Pfitzinger’s excellent piece on today’s Catholic bookstores and the challenges they face [July 7], I may have given the impression that today’s youth do not read.

Student clarifies graduation section responses
I am extremely honored at having been recognized in this year’s Salute to Graduates [May 12]. I understand space limitations often require students’ answers to be shortened. Due to the shortening of my answers, I believe that some of my key ideas have been misrepresented. At St. Agnes, I have been challenged to look at real-world and controversial issues from a faithfully Catholic viewpoint. I think this was lost in the editing, and I would like to clarify a couple of ideas.

Priest clarifies remarks, MCC position on tax plan
On Feb. 18, I delivered the keynote address at the Joint Religious Legislative Coalition’s Day on the Hill. I was invited to deliver that address and accepted the invitation several weeks prior to my assuming the role of interim executive director of the Minnesota Catholic Conference until such time as a nationwide search identified a permanent director. I was speaking as a long-time member and supporter of the JRLC.
Fellow Catholic’s reflection on Cairo was inspiring
I found the article “A Catholic’s reflections on Cairo” [March 3] very inspiring. It calls us to be awake to reality. If one person is aware, it affects our family members and all the people surrounding us at work and community. The article made me want to try.
