Father Lawrence Antus, 80, a member of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, died May 24. After his ordination in 1958, he served in the archdiocese at St. Casimir in St. Paul, where a memorial Mass was celebrated June 4. He also served various Midwest parishes and at missions in Denmark.
Father Bernard Klein, 88, died May 4. He was ordained a priest June 4, 1949. He retired from active ministry in January 1995 but continued to serve parishes in sacramental ministry.
Deacon Paul Carlson, 94, was part of the first group of permanent deacons to be ordained for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis in 1976. He died April 20.
Twin Cities philanthropist Henrietta Veronica Schmoll Rauenhorst died Oct. 13 at the age of 83. Known as “Hanky” to family and friends, she was a St. Catherine University Emerita Trustee, and she chaired two of its fundraising campaigns with her husband, Gerald (Gerry).
Oblate Father Wilfrid Upson, 80, died Sept. 5 at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood. Father Upson served in the archdiocese as pastor of St. Mary in downtown St. Paul from 1976 to 1985. In 1998, he became a resident at St. Casimir in St. Paul and a pastoral volunteer at the Union Gospel Mission. He was noted throughout his priesthood for working with alcoholics and the poorest of the poor. For the past two years, he was a resident at the Cerenity Center in St. Paul.
Msgr. John Sankovitz, 87, died Aug. 29. He was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Wisconsin and ordained a priest for the archdiocese on May 31, 1947. Msgr.
