The new deans and their deaneries are: Father Thomas Walker, Deanery Five; Father Timothy Dolan, Deanery Ten; Father Stan Mader, Deanery Six; and Father Rolf Tollefson, who will serve as Archbishop John Nienstedt’s appointee.

Archdiocese announces official parish mergers, clergy assignments and a retirement
The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis announced that three canonical mergers will be official on Jan. 1: St. Austin of Minneapolis into St. Bridget of Minneapolis; Most Holy Trinity in St. Louis Park into Our Lady of Grace in Edina; and St. Vincent in St. Paul into the Cathedral parish of St. Paul.

Two priests retire, others receive faculties, new assignments
Father Gregory Welch retired from full-time ministry June 30. He had served as pastor of St. Patrick in Edina since 2004. He was ordained in 1967 and served on staff at the Catholic Youth Center in St. Paul.

Oblate Father William O’Donnell was named to serve as pastor of St. Casimir and St. Patrick, both in St. Paul, effective Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Seven priests have been given new or additional assignments for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis that all begin July 1.
Newly ordained join other priests in parish assignments
The men who were ordained May 28 for this archdiocese were given assignments as associate priests that were effective June 15.

Three priests appointed as regional vicars
Three priests of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis have been appointed by Archbishop John Nienstedt as regional vicars to help foster communication between parishes, clergy and the archbishop.
Father Kevin Magner to serve in Lonsdale
Father Kevin Magner was appointed parochial administrator of Immaculate Conception in Lonsdale, effective Jan. 17. Since he was ordained in May 2003, he has served at Our Lady of Grace in Edina, St. Charles Borromeo in St. Anthony, St. John the Evangelist in Hopkins and St. Anne in Hamel.
Sister Ashton named delegate for religious
For more than 20 years, Sister Ashton was the president/CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Minneapolis, then spent eight years as Minnesota’s State Commissioner of Health.
Priests named to Vocations Office, new clergy institute
Father Troy Przybilla was named director of the archdiocesan Vocations Office and Father Peter Williams was named director of the Institute for Ongoing Clergy Formation, both effective Jan. 15.
They are among the four priests and one deacon who are receiving new assignments from Archbishop John Nienstedt.
Father Kammen named administrator at St. Hubert
Father Paul Kammen was named parochial administrator for St. Hubert in Chanhassen.
Father Kammen, who was ordained in May 2007, has been serving as an assistant pastor at St. Hubert. He previously served as assistant pastor at Holy Name in Medina.
Father David McCauley named interim director of Minnesota Catholic Conference
Archbishop John C. Nienstedt, archbishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, announced the appointment of Father David McCauley, as interim director of the Minnesota Catholic Conference, effective Nov. 9, 2010.
